Anuj gets a tearful farewell

The body of 23-year-old engineering student Anuj Bidve that reached Pune on Saturday evening was consigned to flames at a crematorium in Yerawada in the evening,but without any rituals or condolence speeches.

The body of 23-year-old engineering student Anuj Bidve that reached Pune on Saturday evening was consigned to flames at a crematorium in Yerawada in the evening,but without any rituals or condolence speeches.

His parents and brother-in-law had gone to the UK to get his body. They returned to Mumbai airport with Anuj’s body in a British Airways flight around 11.45 am and reached their Pune residence at Shrikrishna Society in Chandan Nagar around 5 pm.

Hundreds of people,including family members,friends and neighbours,had gathered at the residence to pay their tributes.

Around 7 pm,Anuj’s body was taken to the crematorium in Yerawada for the funeral.

Mayor Mohansingh Rajpal was also present at the funeral.

A family member informed at the crematorium that they had decided not to perform any rituals or condolence meetings during or after the funeral.

Police were deployed for controlling the crowd and managing traffic. BJP MP Prakash Javadekar,MLAs Vinod Tawade and Girish Bapat,Vikas Mathkari and NCP MLA Bapu Pathare visited Anuj’s residence and offered their condolences to the family.

A devastated father,Subhash Bidve said his son was very straightforward,disciplined,soft-spoken and very friendly. “He was a very good son.”

Anuj’s mother Yogini Bidve was inconsolable. “Ka Mala To Sodun Gela…Tyane Kauncha Kay Wite Kela Hote….? (Why did he leave me…he never did anything wrong to anyone…),” she said.

Family members and friends of Anuj were seen crying continuously and were not in a position to speak.

In the UK,Anuj’s parents had visited the scene of the crime and the Lancaster University where he was pursuing a post-graduation course in microelectronics.

Anuj was shot in the head from close range on December 26,2011,in Ordsall,Manchester.

Anuj’s father said,“This should not happen again because many Indian students go to the UK for their education after which they return to their own countries. So,I humbly request all to kindly help get justice for Anuj.”

British MP of Indian origin Keith Vaz has announced a fund in Anuj’s memory.

The UK Police has charged 20-year-old Kiaran Stapleton,from the Ordsall area,for Anuj’s murder. The trial in the case is scheduled in June.
