Committed to popularising the contributions of Dr B R Ambedkar on the occasion of the birth anniversary of the Father of Indian Constitution on April 14, the Maharashtra government-constituted autonomous body Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Research and Training Institute (BARTI) has come up with a proposal to ensure that there is a copy of the Indian Constitution in every house. The initiative on the sidelines of Ambedkar Jayanti is inspired by the central government’s `Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign to invoke patriotism among people by encouraging them to hoist the national flag at all houses.

BARTI, formed to propagate the ideologies of Ambedkar and work for the underprivileged sections of society, will get the copies of Indian Constitution printed from Government Press and would sell them at nominal price. “The price of each copy of the Indian Constitution comes out to be Rs 465 and there is a provision that we can sell them at 15 percent of the actual cost. Thus, it will be close to Rs 50 per copy,” said Sunil Ware, BARTI director-general.

The state social justice department, as part of implementing the initiative, has given its go ahead to BARTI to print one lakh copies of the Constitution at the government press.

“The Har Ghar Tiranga campaign is very good and encourages citizens to have the Indian flag in every home that can be hoisted on Independence Day and Republic Day. The Indian flag is a symbol of pride for every Indian and so is the Indian Constitution. Thus, we decided to launch the initiative to encourage every citizen to have a copy of the Indian Constitution at home which will be a kind of ‘Har Ghar Samvidhan’,” Ware said.

The copy of the Indian Constitution will be printed in Marathi, Hindi and English. It will be sold in the bookstore of BARTI in the city at Yerawada, Ware said.

The institute is also working on creating a small audio-visual clip on Dr Ambedkar which will provide a glimpse on the life of the national leader and his contribution in nation building, he said, and added that the books of the great visionary will also be digitalised.

Among the other initiatives of BARTI, a residential hostel for Scheduled Caste students is being constructed in Yerawada where they will be preparing for competitive examinations. “This will be in addition to the existing programme wherein 300 SC students are sent to Delhi for training for competitive examinations,” Ware said.

It also trains the underprivileged, unemployed, unskilled, semi-skilled trainees from the SC community and to make them skilled and employable.

BARTI aims to do research in various spheres of equality and justice. It also implements different schemes, projects and activities for furthering the ideology and spreads the thoughts of Dr Ambedkar.
