Amalgamating Art

What does one get when the art forms of a painter,a flautist,a couple of photographers and Kathak dancers are brought together? While cynics might complain that it will lead to a hodgepodge of various art forms, others can argue that it will be a seamless combination that will in turn inspire the artistes to create works of art that are not only innovative, but also interesting.

Attempting to showcase this same harmonious symbiosis of art forms are flautist Milind Date and painter Milind Mullick, who will perform an exclusive show – Fusionite – at Mont Vert Belair,Bhugaon today. Speaking more about the show,Mullick says,“I will paint pictures inspired by nature, and by Milind Date’s music. The USP of the evening is that it is impromptu. So whatever I paint will be based on the music that he plays, and also on the dance and the photography exhibition.”

In addition to the two of them, the evening will also feature a Kathak dance performance by Varsha Godbole, and a photography exhibition of the surroundings of Bhugaon by photographers Shrikant Lele and Mrinal Kenchi. Date says,“For me,playing the flute will not only be about being able to connect with the audience, but also with my fellow artistes. So it will have to incorporate elements of Milind’s (Mullick) brush strokes, the Kathak dance form, and even the photos that will be up on display.”

As far as the performance goes,Date says that while it will be on-the-spot fusion,he will also perform a couple of pieces that he has specially composed for the evening. “One piece is based on Raag Bhoop, which is one of the most ancient raagas that we have. The piece is inspiring and refreshing. I will also perform pieces from the Rajasthani,Gujarati and Bengali music forms, and a classical piece as well,” he adds.

Mullick, who will also display his paintings at the event, says,“The landscape painting that I will create at the venue will be of a different sort. Usually when I paint in my studio,I have soft music playing in the background. But since it’s recorded,it’s predictable. However,at the venue,Milind will play different pieces that I don’t know about,so I will have to go along with the flow, which is a unique experience in itself.”
