Five artistes have come together to showcase their painting styles as a tribute to the Abhinav Kala Mahavidyala
The common link that connects artists Chinmayee Sukthankar,Ashwini Khandare,Vijay Adagale,Milind Rairikar and Pallavi Sonavane has been the college where they learnt their craft- Abhinav Kala Mahavidyalaya. And paying homage to the institute they have come up with an exhibition of paintings titled ‘Perceiving Art The Abhinav Way’,which is on at Malaka Spice till October 15.
Sukthankar is a graphic design consultant and has also worked in the field of E-Learning. In my leisure time I like to sketch, paint, read or volunteer for various NGOs, says Sukthankar. Some of her favourite themes for painting are landscapes, tranquility, love, glamour and wine. Even the paintings that are on display are deeply inspired from the very ideology. The use of bright colours, she says, makes her paintings realistic.
A total of 15 paintings are on display at the exhibition. Most of them are all acrylic on canvas with the exception of a couple being oil on canvas. The influences of the different styles are also showcased in the fact that the artists have chosen to stick to their main influences. Take the case of Khandare whose works are more symbolic in nature. Every symbol shows the inner soul and through my paintings,I try to reflect shadows of human emotions through the exhibition, says Khandare.
If Khandare’s works are symbolic,Vijay Adagale’s works are simple and profound. I like to paint for peace, says Adagale, who has been painting for the last 10 years and whose works are mostly on Buddha and still life. Milind Rairikar’s works are heavily inspired from the Maharashtrian traditions, and as he mentions, they are inseparable parts of his style which has left an impression on his canvas.
While the group prefer painting on themes they are at ease with, the collective ideology is to portray their various styles under one exhibition. That is why we chose to attribute the paintings to the Abhinav Kala Mahavidyala, the only common link in our paintings, laughs Sukthankar.
