On Tuesday, the Air Force Association will lay a wreath at the Mig-21 model at Lohegaon Air Base as part of the Airforce Association’s Raising Day. Retd Air Commodore S A Ranade will be participating in the ceremony.

The Air Force Association has been in existence since 1980 and has over 16 branches over the country, excluding two branches abroad – in Australia and UK. In Pune, the branch was set up in 1981.

Over the years, the Air Force Association has helped in building a network for retired persons in getting pensions. “Our purpose is to look after the welfare of the retred airforce personnel, their families and their widows,” a member said.

“In the last couple of years,we have helped personnel in over nine cases in procuring their pension benefits. We have helped in the reimbursement of their medical bills and we have also helped relieve many of their financial difficulties by recommending their cases to several trusts set up for retired air force personnel,” he said.

A key trust for retired airforce personnel is the “Marshal of the Air Force Arjan Singh and Mrs Arjan Singh Trust” which was set up in 2004. The trust was set up with Rs 2 crore and the interest is used to help families of Airforce personnel who are in need. “We recommend their cases to the trust and they help out,” members said.
