Activist demands MSEDCL loadshedding details under RTI

Despite the availability of power from the Tata Power Company (TPC),Puneites have been facing power-cuts every day,Vivek Velankar, president of the Sajag Nagrik Manch, said here on Wednesday.

In a statement,Velankar has demanded that the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) should publish information about the actual loadshedding done each day in Pune as per section 4 (1) (C) and 4 (1) (D) of the Right to Information Act,2005. Though the MSEDCL had made power requirement clear to the TPC and had obtained the same, citizens in Pune still faced loadshedding,he said.

He also said a communique was received from Kundan Kumar, assistant manager,Tata Power Trading Company Limited stating that the MSEDCL has informed them about purchase of 1.8 MUs of energy during the time period seven to 19 hours for June 12. The MSEDCL had informed TPC to purchase power at the rate around Rs 5 /kWh whereas the TPC pointed out that since the market rates had increased,it would be difficult to supply power to the franchisees at the same rate. Velankar claimed that when Puneites were paying Rs 8.54 per unit for 1.8 MUs every day then why should MSEDCL compel Tata Power to buy at Rs 5.

When contacted,S P Nagtilak, chief engineer,Pune division,MSEDCL,said the “system had faced problems” and hence there were power cuts as the supply from the TPC was not enough. Also, there was a problem in the supply of power from the Pardi- Chandrapur 400 KV line,he said.
