4 PPS members arrested for throwing ink on mayor

The city police have arrested four members of the Patit Pavan Sanghatna for allegedly throwing black ink on Mayor Mohansingh Rajpal on Monday.

The city police have arrested four members of the Patit Pavan Sanghatna (PPS) for allegedly throwing black ink on Mayor Mohansingh Rajpal on Monday.

The suspects have been identified as Manoj Chandrakant Pawar (32) of Raviwar Peth, and Narendra Narayan Dharmakamble (18),Harish Gulab Mohite (24),Shashikant Sudhakar Todkar (30),all from Lohiyanagar. A search has been launched for one more accomplice.

The suspects were arrested following the description given by the mayor. “We had found the pamphlet of the PPS condemning the mayor. So we showed the photographs of some PPS members to the mayor. He identified Manoj Pawar as one of the persons who threw black ink on him. Our night patrolling team nabbed Pawar and three others at a hotel in Lohiyanagar,” said senior police inspector Samaptrao Patil of Shivajinagar police station.

PPS city president Shivajirao Chavan, who had earlier denied any links with the incident, today admitted that the four suspects arrested were members of PPS. “We accept that they are members of our Raviwar Peth branch. But they had not discussed their plan with the city-level leaders of PPS. The Raviwar Peth branch planned the action against the mayor on their own,” said Chavan.

“ PSS will stand by its members. We don’t want the statue of Dadoji Konddeo, the tutor of Chhatrapati Shivaji to be removed from the historic Lal Mahal. PPS members had participated in the agitation to protest against the mayor for his volte face on removing the statue, and for his incomplete knowledge of history,” he said.
