A day after Prime Minister Narendra Modi called Nitish Kumar Bihar’s “laadle mukhyamantri (dear Chief Minister)”, the latter’s son Nishant Kumar said both the NDA and the JD(U) should declare his father the CM face of the alliance ahead of the Assembly elections coming up in the state later this year.

Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of an event to mark the birth anniversary of his late mother, Manju Sinha, Nishant on Tuesday again ducked questions on his political entry.
There has been a buzz recently that the Chief Minister’s son may soon enter politics and even contest in the coming Assembly elections. This is the third time since January 8 that Nishant interacted with the media after having stayed largely behind the scenes before that.
“I would urge the youth and people from all sections of society to vote for the NDA. Last time, people gave JD(U) only 43 seats. Yet, my father ensured that the pace of the state’s development did not slow down. We expect more seats so that development works can be further stepped up,” he said Tuesday.
He also appealed to JD(U) workers to go to the people and tell them of the work done by Nitish Kumar in the last 19 years. “People should tell us what more needs to be done. There should be no slacking from our end,” he said, opening up on political matters for the first time.
He also appealed to NDA and the JD(U) to announce Nitish Kumar as the Chief Minister face for the coming polls. “NDA should declare it and JD(U) workers and leaders should declare it so that government is formed under his leadership again and development of the state continues,” Nishant said.
RJD national vice president and former MP Shivanand Tiwari welcomed the idea of Nishant joining politics. “I have seen Nishi (Nishant) grow. He has remained completely non-controversial so far, which is something very remarkable. I have heard him speaking on politics. He has my blessings,” Tiwari said.
A senior BJP leader said Nitish Kumar would be declared the CM candidate at the right time. “Nitish Kumar is NDA leader and CM. He will be declared CM candidate at the right time. The PM has always praised Nitish Kumar. Nishant has only stated what is very obvious… We can now sense that Nishant is joining politics soon and taking key JD(U) decisions,” the BJP leader said.
