Minister of Higher and Technical Education Rajesh Tope, who was present at the event, said,There is already a community college scheme of central government and University Grants Commission where every state will have to set up 16 community colleges. The state government is looking at implementing this scheme at the earliest. The community college programme of Mumbai University is different from the central government’s scheme. Such programmes would prove beneficial in bridging the skill gap between institutions and industry.
We expect more industries to come forward to start community colleges especially in rural/tribal/ urban areas as per their needs. So that youth in those areas will be assured of employment .This is in true sense the Industry-Academia interface, said Dr Rajan Welukar,Vice-Chancellor of MU.
