The Mumbai Crime Branch (unit II) has arrested three persons in connection with a gold burglary at Sanyyam Casting Company in Ghodapdeo area of Byculla a month ago. The arrested have been identified as Rakesh Jaana,Ashok Khan and Subhendu Sardar.
Jaana and Khan were arrested from Howrah on May 24 and booty worth Rs 11 lakh was recovered from them. Sardar was arrested on May 29 from Kalyan. Crime Branch officers said Dilip Lalchand Jain of the Sanyyam Casting Company had filed a case of robbery in Byculla police station against five armed men who barged into the designing unit and looted it after holding the owner and employees at gunpoint.
Jain had said in his statement to the police that he was present in the unit with six of his employees. The seven were casting gold and designing ornaments when a 25-year-old man rang the door bell. The man entered the unit and held Jain at gunpoint,while four of his accomplices entered the unit after him. Two of the accomplices were armed with revolvers and they held the remaining employees at gunpoint.
The robbers then tied the limbs of all employees and gagged their mouth. The officers said that they also attacked Jain and his workers with iron chairs. They took away Rs 60,000 in cash and gold worth Rs 40 lakh.
