Since you’re judging people who’re basically actors on Zara Nachke Dikha, did their dancing skills surprise you?
Warsi: I was really, really surprised by how well the participants danced. I was told that they’re all good dancers, but I thought that for actors to be good dancers and for dancers to be good dancers are two different things. I would be judging them as a dancer myself,so I thought they might not be able to meet my standards. But I was blown away when I saw them perform.

Shetty: Quite frankly,I was gobsmacked. I’ve been a judge on a dance show before,so I knew that there’s a lot of hard work and commitment that the participants put in. But this was quite another level. You’ll see what I mean when you watch the show yourself. The girls especially did a fabulous dance with fire.

What was it that made you decide to be part of the show?
Warsi: I get called for practically any dance show being made for television, but I’m never able to take up the offers, because their dates clash with my shooting dates. For this show, finally everything fell into place.

Shetty: I love dance shows, but I wasn’t sure I wanted to be part of just any show. Zara Nachke Dikha promised to be nothing less than spectacular. I had my doubts initially, but those vanished as soon as I saw the sets and the efforts put into creating them.

What was it like on the sets? Did you have a good time with your fellow judges and the participants?
Warsi: We had the best time. I enjoy watching these talented dancers perform and it’s wonderful to be part of the show. In fact,I brought in my birthday on the sets.

Shetty: Absolutely. Whenever I take on a project like this,I like there to be a family-like atmosphere on the sets, and that hope was fulfilled.

Since the two of you, along with fellow judge Vaibhavi Merchant, are accomplished dancers, will we see you sharing the stage in the show?
Warsi: There isn’t any definite plan about that, but we just might. We all have such different styles,it’ll be fun to dance together.

Shetty: All three of us are different people, with very individual styles of dancing.

Although,we haven’t yet planned anything, maybe we can work something out.

Do you have a favourite dance show?
Warsi: I don’t watch television.

Shetty: I don’t think it would be politically correct for me to say whether I enjoy another dance show.

If you hadn’t been actors, would you have been dancers?
Warsi: I was a dance choreographer to begin with. But I love my job as an actor and I think I would’ve been one no matter what. I have a few exciting projects coming up. I’m currently working on Golmaal3 and I’m also working on an untitled home production, which will be directed by Bijoy Nambiar, who’s worked with Mani Ratnam.

Shetty: I would’ve been a volleyball player. I used to be a state-level player and was captain of my school team. In any case,I wouldn’t have been a dancer. I’m very passionate about it and it’s my way of expressing myself. But as a profession,I wouldn’t have taken it up.
