Techie held after rape complaint by girlfriend

The Oshiwara police Thursday arrested a 30-year-old software engineer after his girlfriend filed a complaint of rape against him.

The complainant,an airhostess,told the police he had promised to marry her,but had recently started dating a girl from Delhi. According to police,the 27-year-old woman said she met Amrutanshu Shekar through a matrimony website two years ago. Shekar had told her he was from Delhi and working as a software engineer in a leading company in Mumbai and stayed in Powai.

The two began dating and staying together at his residence. A few months ago,the woman introduced Shekar to her parents,telling them they intended to get married. Shekar asked her parents to make arrangements for the wedding.

A few days ago,one of the womans relatives told her that Shekar was going to marry someone from Delhi and that they had received his wedding card. The relative told the woman that Shekars parents had been distributing his wedding cards and were making arrangements for his marriage.

The womans mother said they called her fiance up in Delhi but he could not give a satisfactory reply. Shekars father is a well-known doctor in Delhi,police said.
