A 28-year-old Hindi teacher of a school in Mulund was arrested by the local police on Wednesday for allegedly molesting a 12-year-old student of the school. The arrested teacher, identified as Anupam Dwivedi, was arrested after the victim and her parents approached the police on Monday, and alleged that he had molested the girl in December last year.

The teacher and the student are both associated with the SKKES School in Mulund (West),police said.

“In her statement, the victim said Dwivedi and she began talking online after she gave her e-mail address on his request. In December last year,Dwivedi called her to the Art room and tried getting physical with her. The girl ran out but did not narrate the incident to anyone,” Gopal Pawar assistant inspector of Mulund police said.

Pawar said Dwivedi, fearing that the victim would narrate the incident to others, began shouting at her in front of other staff members.

“The victim has told us that he would often shout at her in front of other teachers. On March 17,Dwivedi called the girl again and told her to wear a black thread, which he had brought. He told her that the thread would solve all her problems,” Pawar said.

Dwivedi then allegedly began calling the victim and is alleged to have used obscene language while speaking to her over the phone. When the calls did not stop, the victim narrated the incident to her parents who approached the police.

A case was then registered against Dwivedi under Section 354 (outraging modesty of a woman) and 509 (word or act intended to outrage modesty of a woman) of the Indian Penal Code.
