New sound and musical genres find new stage
Indias only live stand up comedy joint,The Comedy Store,is no longer a hang-out zone for those looking for some serious fun and laughter. From today,it plays host to musicians too as it collaborates with Groove Temple Entertainment to introduce Played Live,a weekly musical event.
Every Tuesday, the gag station aims to put the spotlight on new talent and sounds. True to that tonights event will feature a sufitronic collective called the Rajasthan Roots that blends sufi vocals with electronic. Its time people heard new genres besides rock and there is a huge following of different genres like jazz, blues, acoustic and world music. This is the reason we have come up with the event, said Kaveer Shahani,Founder and CEO,Groove Temple Entertainment.
The Rajasthan Roots will start with a Nanak bhajan,Waari Jaau, rendered with a touch of blue. This will be followed by folk-blues numbers, jugalbandis and popular sufi songs such as Mast Kalandar. The folk musicians from Rajasthan will bring out traditional musical instruments such as kartal and the Punjabi woodwind instrument algoza to perform with the guitar and drums. This is the music of India but we have added an international flavour to it, said Aditya Bhasin, the guitarist.
