The Marine Drive Police have registered a case against unidentified persons for forwarding a provocative SMS about the Azad Maidan violence urging people to protest against the attack on police personnel. Officers said several personnel of the Mumbai Police had received the SMS and they were tracing the person who first sent the text.
The message urges persons to protest against attacks on police personnel and also the molestation of women personnel… and to not fear action and wear black ribbons as mark of protest… and forward the message to others.
Officers of the Marine Drive Police said the case was registered on Sunday under The Police (Incitement to Disaffection) Act 1922 and the Information Techonology Act. It was brought to our notice by an officer of the Special Branch. We are on the lookout for the person responsible, said senior inspector Z M Gharal. He added that it had communal overtones and could lead to communal tension.
