SOME distance education students of Mumbai University (MU) appearing for the MA Marathi paper (old syllabus) were in for a shock Friday when they given question papers with revised syllabus.

Three students rushed to the Kalina campus and met the controller of examinations.

Subsequently, papers with the old syllabus were made available to the students and their exam time was changed from 11 am-2 pm to 2 pm-5 pm.

When a course is revised, the old syllabus is retained for three terms. Since three terms were over, new syllabus was used in this exam.

“We didn’t know this rule, the university never told us. Even our hall tickets mentioned old syllabus. Though the university gave the three of us question papers of the old curriculum,we were too stressed by then and couldn’t do well in the exam. Other students too suffered similarly. I don’t know what arrangements were made for them,” claimed Ujwala Sawant,an MA-part 2 student.

A university official, however, said the students should have been aware of the rule. “To ensure they do not lose out on an academic year, arrangements were made for the three,” he official.
