A 25-YEAR-OLD man allegedly murdered a 26-year-woman, with whom he was in a relationship, on Saturday at a lodge in Wakad area of Pimpri Chinchwad after he celebrated her birthday.
The man, identified as Dilawar Singh, a resident of Pisoli area of Pune, later surrendered before the police. The accused told the police that he allegedly committed the crime suspecting that she was in a relationship with another man.
The accused was arrested and a murder case registered against him at Wakad station.
The police have identified the deceased as Mary Mallesh Telugu, 26, a resident of Dehu Road, who had worked at a department store and was currently unemployed.
Police said that Singh was currently unemployed and earlier did small jobs. The two were in a relationship for some time.
An officer from Wakad police station said, “On Saturday evening, Singh reached Kondhwa police station and told the police that he was in a relationship with a woman but he suspected that she was being unfaithful to him. He told the police that he had taken her to a lodge in the Kalakhadak area in Wakad earlier that afternoon to celebrate her birthday. Her birthday was the day before.”
“When he checked her phone he found intimate photos of her with another man. And because of that he had murdered her with a razor blade by slitting her throat and hitting her with a wrench, in a fit of rage,” the officer added.
“The in-charge inspector of Kondhwa police station informed the Wakad police about the man’s statement. A team from Wakad police station was sent to the lodge and the body of the woman was found in a room. Singh was subsequently taken into custody and handed over to the Wakad police. He was placed under arrest and has been booked for murder. We have launched an investigation to establish the sequence of events leading to the murder,” the officer further said.
An offence was registered Saturday night at Wakad police station which is part of the Pimpri Chinchwad jurisdiction under the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita sections pertaining to murder based on a complaint filed by a family member of the deceased.
Singh was produced before the court on Sunday and was remanded in police custody.
