Electronic appliances made in Japan and the Japanese cuisine, sushi in particular, have always been a lure for Indians. But the Government of Japans Ministry of Economy,Trade and Industry (METI) wants to offer a slice of Japan to India beyond the cliché. As a result, they launched a unique four-day test marketing project,Feel Japan Style in India from March 12-15,at Palladium,High Street Phoenix,Lower Parel. The launch was also accompanied by a classical Nihon Buyo dance performance by Japanese artist Yuri Shirahane dressed in traditional Japanese attire. This is a popular dance to welcome the Spring season in Japan, said Shirahane, who seemed to be quite pleasantly surprised with the admiration showered on her by the people gathered there. The exhibit, modelled along the lines of an apartment had, various rooms, each displaying products brought in from Japan to suit the Indian consumers. With this concept,we have brought more than 100 products to the city. From electronics, cosmetics, clothes, furniture to toiletries and automobiles, there is plenty to choose from, said Tetsuya Watanabe, director,Asia and Pacific Division,Trade Policy Bureau,METI,who feels their main aim right now is to understand the Indian consumer better. Pricing will be decided once we plan on setting up permanently here.
