His birthday celebrations have always been a gala affair but this time around,it promises to be even bigger and very special . As Bollywood biggie Karan Johar’s 40th birthday comes close — on May 25 — the preparations for a lavish party in Mumbai are on in full swing. Designer and close friend Manish Malhotra is helming the party that will be held at Taj Land’s End,Bandra. According to a source,Malhotra is devoting all the time to make it an event to remember. “From the decor,to the invites that are being made in Delhi,Malhotra is supervising the overall look for the party,” we are told.

The guest list is ready and the dress code for the bash is strictly formal. Given Johar’s clout in the industry,tinseltown’s who’s-who are expected to attend the celebrations. His close friends (read: the A-listers of Bollywood) have made changes in their work schedules and travel plans to be in town for his birthday.

It will be a black-tie evening. While his guests are already fussing over their wardrobes for KJo’s party,Johar hasn’t selected his own attire for the do yet. “He could wear either a Manish Malhotra creation,an outfit by Varun Bahl (with whom he partners on a menswear brand) or put together something of his own,” says a source.

Johar is kicked about the party. “According to him,since he won’t ever have a wedding,turning 40 is a big event in his life. He wants to celebrate his brithday with the same grandeur that’s associated with weddings. The lavish decorations aside,the food will be multi-cuisine and will include Johar’s favourite — sushi. A DJ from Delhi is being flown down specially for the do and there will be a sprawling dance floor for the guests to let their hair down,” quips a KJo associate.
