Fashionable and late

What is an evening devoted to fashion if it doesn’t start three hours late? The evening of cocktails and couture hosted by Charu and Priya Sachdev to showcase the new spring-summer collections from Moschino,Lanvin and Stella McCartney,was an elegant affair. So what if dinner was hurried and guests Arjun and Mehr Rampal didn’t bother turning up. The crystal ballroom at the Taj Mahal Palace and Tower on Tuesday,April 27,featured a temporary ramp,where the clothes were modelled by the ‘I Am She’ Miss Universe 2010 contestants. Sushmita Sen,who’s taken over the Indian Miss Universe franchise,was seen cheering on her girls,while the gracious hosts,strutting about in sky high Loubotins,personally welcoming each of their guests including Arpita Khan,Maheka Mirpuri and Manasi Scott. Queenie Singh,looking like she’d raided a gold shop,came arm in arm with beau Farhad Taraporewala,while Prahlad Kakkar mercifully turned up without any headgear. Sharmilla Khanna got the staff to clear the tables of all the name tags,so that she could sit with her pals Nisha Jhaveri,Madhoo Shah,Natasha Poonawalla and Chaya

Momaya. And even though dinner happened about two hours after we were ready for it,the pale asparagus starter and ravioli were worth the wait.

Bummer The clothes on the runway were lovely,but they were let down by the awful styling — right from the peculiar side buns to the garish jewellery.
