In what could be a significant development in the 7/11 Mumbai serial train blast trial,an eye witness testified on Tuesday and identified an accused Asif Khan. The witness,a 57-year-old businessman from Borivali, was travelling on the local to Virar when a bomb exploded in the train at Borivali.
The witness told the court that when he boarded the train at Churchgate station on July 11,2006,he saw two persons, including Khan, with a black bag. They kept the bag on the overhead rack in the first class compartment of the train and got off at Dadar station. The witness stated that this created a commotion as commuters were agitated that the duo boarded an overcrowded Virar local to get off at Dadar.
The witness told the court that when Khan and his accomplice got off they did not have the bag with them and the bomb went off when the witness himself was getting ready to alight the train at Borivali, said Special Public Prosecutor Raja Thackeray. The witness suffered injuries in the face and ear drums. The special Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) court conducting the trial will continue with cross examination of the witness on Wednesday.
