The Economic Offences Wing of the Mumbai Police has launched a probe against 33 developers who have not yet handed over 14,063.94 square metres of additional space due to MHADA in cessed buildings which have been redeveloped.

The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the Mumbai Police has launched a probe against 33 developers who have not yet handed over 14,063.94 square metres of additional space due to MHADA in cessed buildings which have been redeveloped.

This was disclosed by Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan in a written reply to a question by Madhuri Misal (BJP MLA from Parvati,Pune) about developers not handing over additional space to MHADA in the redevelopment of its cessed buildings. Chavan said the developers had not surrendered the additional space under DCR 33(7) and had cheated MHADA by creating third party interests.

These 33 properties are spread over Mandvi,Dr Bhadkamkar Marg,Shuklaji Street,Mazgaon,Dr A Nair Road,Dadar (East),Mahim,Lower Parel and Prabhadevi. While a total surplus area of 14,480.88 sq m was to be surrendered, the actual area surrendered was just 366.94 sq m.

Complaints had been lodged at the respective police stations against 33 developers. MHADA vice-chairman had written to the Mumbai Police Commissioner on June 16,requesting these cases be clubbed as they were of the same nature and for the EOW to take action in this regard. A FIR had also been filed against a developer in one of these 33 cases. Chavan said MHADA officials had filed their statements on July 15.
