Drunk GRP constable fires accidentally,held

A Railways police constable,who was allegedly under the influence of alcohol,accidentally discharged a round while surrendering his service rifle on the premises of the Mumbai Central Railway police station on Sunday.

A Railways police constable,who was allegedly under the influence of alcohol,accidentally discharged a round while surrendering his service rifle on the premises of the Mumbai Central Railway police station on Sunday. Nilesh Patil has been arrested by the Nagpada police and further inquiries are being conducted.

According to the Nagpada police officers,Patil (40),a Government Railway Police (GRP) constable,was carrying the rifle was on his way back from his shift around 1 am to surrender it inside the Mumbai Central Railway police station when he accidentally pulled the trigger.

“Thankfully,the barrel of the rifle was pointing towards the ground and the round did not hurt anyone but struck the floor of the police station,” said a GRP police officer.

“Patil was in an inebriated state at the time of the incident. As his duty was over,he was on his way to surrender his rifle inside the railway police station as is the protocol. As the railway police station falls under the jurisdiction of the Nagpada police station,the case has been transferred to them for further investigation,” GRP Commissioner Tukaram Chavan said.

The police registered a case against Patil under the relevant sections and further probe is on.
