Container explosion kills 2 welders

Two persons were killed and four injured after part of a container exploded in Navi Mumbai’s Kon Gaon area near Panvel. The incident took place at 6.30 pm on Wednesday. The two deceased,both welders,were hired by the organisation to open the door of the container.

Police officers said the incident took place in a container yard belonging to Apollo Logistics. “The organisation had hired the two persons to open the door of the container when part of it exploded. The two were killed and four were injured in the explosion,” said Navi Mumbai Police Commissioner Ahmad Javed,adding that the injured were rushed to a hospital.

“There may have been inflammable material inside the container,which,however,did not carry any warning sign. There are some investigations which we must conduct to come to a conclusion,” said an officer requesting anonymity. The police are now speaking to company officials to ascertain what was inside the container.

Asked if anyone from the organisation would be booked for negligence,Javed said it was too early to comment.

“We are investigating the matter. If we find any lapses,appropriate action will be taken against the persons responsible,” said Javed.
