Arrested accused Vikas Bansal,the alleged mastermind in the case of dummy candidates impersonating students for online examinations, was in touch with several touts working in Mumbai colleges and coaching classes. The touts,police claim,helped him identify vulnerable students.
Bansal,owner of Career Guidance with offices in New Delhi and Ghaziabad,was arrested and brought to Mumbai Monday. He was remanded in police custody till July 22.
Bansal reportedly told police he was in touch with more than seven touts in the city. He would promise students admission in top colleges and negotiate a price.
Bansal says he frequently contacted several touts working for top coaching classes, said N More,senior inspector,cyber crime unit, Mumbai Crime Branch.
In May,police informed us that dummies appeared for national-level MBA admission test (NMAT). We found discrepancies in candidate details of 2011 and 2012. We found that around 22 candidates used dummies in 2011,and 46 in 2012, said Rajan Saxena,Vice Chancellor,Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies (NMIMS),Juhu.
Cyber crime officers are scanning Bansals cellphones and computers,seized from his Ghaziabad office,to get details of the conversations.
We are also tracing the dummy students who appeared for the online exams for the 87 students of NMIMS college, said an officer.
Credibility matters to us. It was our responsibility to inform the companies who hired these candidates relying on our reputation, said Saxena.
