Two people were injured when a portion of a tree opposite Laxmi Studio in Aarey Colony,Goregaon,fell around 11 am Friday.
While Shailesh Kumar Yadav (26) suffered a fractured leg,Umashankar Yadav (40) sustained minor leg injuries.
Chandkumar Singh,executive secretary of Aarey Milk Producers Association,said,The incident took place in the kitchen quarters. A portion of the room has also been damaged. Many trees here are old. We have complained to BMC but no action has been taken.
Municipal commissioner Sitaram Kunte,however,said the tree trimming exercise had been completed. According to civic data,18,750 trees have been trimmed and 711 dead/dangerous ones felled ahead of monsoon.
Environmentalist Rishi Aggarwal questioned BMC methods. Unskilled staffers are entrusted with trimming and cutting trees. Haphazard road construction in many areas is also responsible for the problem as often roots of trees do not get enough space to grow.
In the past eight years,15 people have been killed and 102 injured due to tree falls.
