Following the recommendation of chief vigilance officer to chargesheet three MC engineers for sub-standard interlocking tiles used by M/S Captain Enterprises — owned by Daljinder Singh, son of SAD leader Amarjeet Singh Chawla — an inspection team led by V K Bhatt, technical advisor to the chief minister, visited the city on Thursday.
Sources said that samples of the tiles were collected and Bhatt also told MC officials to submit a detailed report within two-three days for further action.
Superintending engineer Dharam Singh said that detailed documents of the entire contract given to Captain Enterprises would be submitted to Bhatt in two days.
When contacted, Bhatt said that the contract was given to the firm before his tenure and the vigilance had already probed the matter. He claimed that it was a routine visit and he visited some other sites where interlocking tiles work was pending apart from Gill road.
The work to install tiles at five sites was allotted to Captain Enterprises in 2012 and the tender cost Rs 2.22 crore in total. The work at all the five sites is pending after tiles failed quality test and a vigilance inquiry was marked. Now MC officials have been made scapegoats in a report despite more than 10 notices sent to the firm in two years while no action has been taken against the contractor who is the son of a SAD leader.
