Several schools in the city are equipped with smart class a modern audio-visual aid designed to assist teachers in classroom. No doubt,it can enhances academic performance of students with simple and practical way of teaching. But in some schools it is proving to be a bane for students and a boon for the teachers.
Comprehending the English lectures has become somewhat a knotty issue for the student. Speakers giving lectures have an accent. They are either American or British. It becomes difficult for us to understand. And our teachers are not helpful either. When we question them they tell us to watch the visuals and understand, said a student of Class VIII.
Students from Class VIII to X have similar grievances. They teachers usually do they personal work while just switching on the recording. They hardly explain the lectures. At the end, they give us a list of questions for homework, saying the answers can be found in the book, said a student of Class X.
It is only an added tool for the teacher through which they can senstitise students about a particular subject. We have a self-generated centre in our school, through which we come to know as which teacher used smart class for how much time, said Paramjit Kaur,Principal of BCM Arya Model Senior Secondary School,Shastri Nagar.
Principal of Nankana Sahib Senior Secondary School,Gill Road,Harpreet Kaur Waraich said the smart classes are used for giving more practical understating of subjects. Nothing can replace a teacher in the classroom. It is in the hands of a teachers to make it successful or make it a failure with the help of multi-media aids, she said.
Smart class is to be used for effective teaching. We too faced some problems, but after counselling the teachers things are better now, said Principal of Kundan Vidya Mandir Rajiv Nagalia.
