New PAUTA team takes charge

It was probably the shortest general house meeting which the Punjab Agricultural University Teachers' Association (PAUTA) has seen in the recent times.

It was probably the shortest general house meeting which the Punjab Agricultural University Teachers’ Association (PAUTA) has seen in the recent times. For PAUTA,which has been in headlines for a while now, change of guard was a low-key affair. Kinghra-Sharma group headed by Dr K N Sharma were handed over the reins of the university teachers’ association today.

At the meeting held today, returning officer Dr R S Dhillon announced the new team at a thinly-attended PAUTA general house. The new team has been elected unopposed.

However, the issue of extending the new PAUTA executive’s term from the current six months to a full term was not taken up at the today’s meeting.

Dr Dhillon said,”The new executive can get the term extended if they but then for us the current team is till September and fresh elections will be held in October.”

Harmit Singh Kinghra,Vice-President,PAUTA,does not seem to consider this much of an issue. “We have come here unopposed and an extension can be taken up in the next general house. We are in no hurry at all,” he averred.

The new team has it agenda drawn up. Kinghra said,”Of late, the PAUTA executive has seen many an issues like resignation of the president,Phd candidate being announced as student by the university, the term of PAUTA and so on. There are certain issues on which the PAUTA executive is silent and we need to resolve these issues.”

Dr KN Sharma, new president, said,”The new team would do every bit for faculty’s welfare.” First of all executive would work to get the revised pay scales implemented at the earliest,he said.
