Zone C; Giaspura says action follows complaints against Bains; SAD councillor cries foul, says he will sit on the floor outside and address the masses as usual
The issue of corruption case against Assistant Commissioner Amarjit Sekhon took yet another turn on Monday when Mayor Hakam Singh Giaspura locked the councillors room where SAD councillor Simarjit Singh Bains used to sit every Monday to address the grievances of the masses.
Heavy police force was deployed outside this room and even arrangement of tear gas and water tankers were made to avoid any untoward incident. While the mayor said it had been done on the demand of the employees of Zone C,Bains said: So what if one room has been locked,I will sit on the floor in the verandah of this office to carry out my work as usual. This room was for all the councillors of Zone C and not only for me.
Bains alleged: The Municipal Corporation has become the den of corruption and no work without money can be done here. Councillors of Zone C were acting as a barrier between the officers and the masses, which had become a big problem for the staff.
Giaspura has earlier accused Bains of framing false charges of corruption against Sekhon, and according to the mayor, the employees of Zone C were scared after this, thinking they could also be targeted some day.
Bains, however, said his name was wrongly being dragged into the episode and added: My fight against corruption will continue, with or without room.
Mohinder Pal has meanwhile taken additional charge of Zone C as Sekhon stands suspended following the graft case.
