Sewing machine cluster to get land in Mullanpur
The sewing machine development club on Wednesday held a meeting in the office of micro small and medium enterprises (MSME) office,where they discussed the schemes relating to sewing machine cluster. President of the club,Jagbir Singh Sokhi,said they would get a piece of land at rural focal point in Mullanpur area.
S S Bedi,assistant director of MSME,Ludhiana,said if any cluster creates a common facility centre,the Centre has given Rs 15 crore,70 per cent of grant is given by the Centre. While for international tours,the government reimburses 75 per cent of the airfare for MSME centres.
The industrialists urged that EMI number for the units in designated areas should be given soon. They also demanded that rules should be relaxed for units located in the residential areas as well.
58 go under knife at family planning camp
A family planning welfare camp was organised at BL Kapoor Memorial Hospital on Wednesday. Fifty-eight patients were operated upon by Dr Renu Watts. Each operated patient was given Rs 250 for tubectomy and Rs 1,100 for vasectomy and a special incentive of steel utensils was also given. In addition to this,motivators were given Rs 150 and Rs 200 each for tubectomy and vasectomy,respectively.
Computer centre opened for village women
The Unique Human Rights and Care organisation on Wednesday opened a sewing machine school,beauty parlour and computer centre in Kutbewal village. President of the organisation,Sukhwinder Singh Talwandi,said more such centres would be opened in other villages to make the women self dependent.
GADVASU athletics meet starts on Thursday
All arrangements have been made to organise the fourth athletics meet of Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University in Ludhiana. Dr V K Taneja,Vice-Chancellor,GADVASU,will inaugurate the meet on February 19 at 10 am at the Punjab Agricultural University. PAU experts to hold five-day training prog for farmers
The Directorate of Extension Education in PAU will hold a five-day training course for farmers and farm women from February 22. Giving details,Director of Extension Education Dr M S Gill said the programme would be held in the Kairon Kisan Ghar in which the subject matter specialists of PAU will give know-how on various aspects of cultivation of fruits,flowers and vegetables.
PAU students excel in youth fest
By fetching 19 gold,two silver and one bronze medals,the Punjab Agricultural University was declared first runner-up in the 11th All-India Inter-agricultural University Youth Festival competition held at Sam Higginbottom Institute of Agriculture Technology & Sciences (SHIATS) in Allahabad recently. Director,Students Welfare,Dr P P S Lubana,said a delegation comprising 22 students participated in the youth festival.
Shiva Sena is countrys biggest enemy,says CPI
Reacting to Shiv Senas call of Maharasthra only for Marathis,CPI leader and general secretary All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC),Gurudas Gupta,said,Shiv Sena is the biggest enemy of the country. They are no less than Pakistan in dividing this country. It seems that they are hand in glove with the terrorists. Our party is against regionalism. The entire country is for Indians.
Gupta had come to the city to address a state-level convention of AITUC on price rise. He said, Our members will protest against inflation on March 5. The government is hand-in-glove with the hoarders. The traders dealing in food business have made profits of over 300 per cent,he alleged.
On March 5,more than 5 lakh workers from across the country will hold protest rallies against inflation,he claimed.
The convention members demanded pension of the agricultural workers be increased to Rs 1,000 per month and minimum wages be implemented for factory workers only.
PU student accused of sexual assault released in Boston
CHANDIGARH: A US court released the Panjab University student accused of sexual assault by a British girl in Boston after he furnished bail bonds of $ 5000. He had appeared in court on Tuesday and his passport and visa were forfeited till the next hearing. The students family,meanwhile,has decided to approach the US consulate on the matter reiterating that their son was innocent.
