All those who are rearing pigs, must restrict their movements within the same area and even the dairies within the city areas should be moved out. This was announced by Mayor Hakam Singh Giaspura in a specially convened meeting held at zone D in the backdrop of swine flu scare. Giaspura said that the MC sanitory inspectors should ensure that pigs did not roam around here and there in the city.
Dr Charanjit Uppal, medical officer health (MoH),Municipal Corporation, said,Although this virus has not been found in India as yet,but still we are taking precautionary measures. At the same time,we will be making people aware about this disease so that they do not panic.
Uppal said,We had a meeting with the Civil Surgeon,Dr SP Sharma also and he told us that MC need not worry. He said the health department was fully geared up and moreover there was no danger to the city from the flu. Nevertheless, general cleanliness drive in the city will be stepped up.
It needs to be mentioned that pigs were mostly reared in slums and hence MC sanitory inspectors would be visiting those areas to advise the dwellers about their cleanliness and movement.
Dr Uppal clarified,This disease is not caused after eating pork, but due to contact of the pigs with humans. One should always wash his or her hands before eating food and should keep a check on the visitors coming from abroad.
The commissioner,GS Ghuman, assitant commissioner Vinod Sharda, joint commissioner BK Gupta and many other officers also took part in this meeting.
