Put Sidhwan Canal road project on fast track: Sukhbir

CHANDIGARH: Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal on Thursday asked the public works department to put four-laning of the road along Sidhwan Canal (southern bypass of Ludhiana) on fast track. Reviewing the progress of state and national highways at a meeting with representatives of PWD (B&R),National Highway Authority of India and private road developers here on Thursday,he asked the chief engineer to ensure completion of this 27-km stretch by December this year.

Annual prize distribution at govt school in Sangowal

LUDHIANA: The annual prize distribution function of Government Senior Secondary School,Sangowal took place a few days ago. Students with 100 per cent attendance,achievements in sports,academics and cultural activities were given prizes. District education officer (DEO),Harbhajan Ram was the chief guest. Students of Class-XII presented an item on mother’s importance and students of Class-VI presented a skit on social evils. Darshpreet – a Kabaddi player,was given a prize while students from Class I-XII with meritorious positions were also given prizes.

Textile conglomerate sees 78.38 per cent rise in turnovers

LUDHIANA: SEL Manufacturing Company Limited,a Ludhiana-based integrated textile conglomerate has witnessed a 78.38 per cent jump in its turnover,from Rs 967.83 crore in the last fiscal year to Rs 1,726.42 crores during the financial year,which ended 31st March,2011. The company recently part-commissioned India’s largest spinning plant (with a capacity of over 4,00,000 spindles) in Mehatwara near Bhopal in Madhya Pradesh.
