The Sonbhadra police have planned an operation to force the Naxal groups abandon their safe hideouts in the forests of Sonbhadra of Uttar Pradesh and Rohtas and Bhabhua districts of Bihar by next year.
Before executing their anti-Naxal plan,the Sonbhadra police have begun the work on setting up the required infrastructure and have also been assured of the funds by the Union government.
Last week,the Union Cabinet Secretary had talked to UP Chief Secretary Atul Gupta and DGP Karamvir Singh through video-conferencing over the progress in the project.
Sonbhadra Superintendent of Police (SP),Deepak Kumar told The Indian Express the construction of octagonal buildings for three police stations and three police outposts and the work on three helipads is presently going on in core Naxal areas of the district. The construction work has been undertaken by the UP Police Housing Corporation and UP Project Corporation,he said.
The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) had released a fund of Rs 1.90 crore each for police stations,Rs 1.37 crore for outposts and Rs 58 lakh each for three helipads under Special Infrastructure Scheme Plan (SIS),the SP said.
Kumar further¿said,I have sent a proposal of getting a bridge constructed on the river Sone under Integrated Development Programme Scheme. The bridge is required to make the movement of the police teams safe during the operation against Naxals on Bihar ¿order.
The Sonbhadra District Magistrate (DM) Pandhari Yadav said the detailed project report (DPR) with an estimate of Rs 90 crore has been sent to the Ministry of Surface Transport for construction of the bridge between Chasikala and Ranidih areas under Kon police station of Sonbhadra. The state Public Works Department is the coordinating agency,he added.
The DM also said the plan for construction of the bridge was decided during the inspection by the Planning Commission in the district in 2008-2009.
Having no bridge on the river Sone,the police teams have to move through hilly areas by the bank of the river which is unsafe,the SP said.
The police stations and the outposts getting facelift with octagonal buildings cover the core Naxal-hit areas of the district bordering Chhattisgarh,Jharkhand and Bihar.
