Ive been a regular on stage in my school and college days in Kolkata and later,in Delhi, playing different roles and loving every bit of it. But yes, this theatre production comes after a long gap, smiles actor Konkona Sen Sharma,in New Delhi as part of the cast of the play The Blue Mug,a Ballantine presentation.
Mumbai and movies have kept her away from theatre, but Sen Sharma says she has been itching to make a comeback on stage for a while now. I found the subject of the play very intriguing the way our memories work the things we remember or forget, and how it influences our lives, says the actor, about the play which is based on The Man Who Mistook His Wife For A Hat And Other Clinical Tales by neurologist Oliver Sachs.
Sen Sharma was also in the company of friends for the play. Atul Kumar, the director,Rajat Kapoor,Vinay Pathak,Ranvir Shorey are all friends and I know their work. So I was quite happy to participate, adds the actor.
In the play Sen Sharma plays the role of a doctor, whos treating a patient,Shorey,(incidentally her boyfriend in real life) who has lost his memory. The actor says the role was both challenging and engrossing. Its a small but powerful part. I had imagined that coming back to stage would be difficult, but it wasnt. I enjoyed myself and felt happy in my own space. Besides,I have always enjoyed the thrill of performing in front of a live audience, she smiles.
Post her stage outing, its back to Bollywood again. Sen Sharma is looking forward to three releases this year Rituparno Ghoshs comedy Sunglass,Vinay Shuklas Mirch and Aparna Sens Iti Mrinalini.
