Over 78 per cent qualify UPSEE ’13

More than 1.50 lakh students,or about 78 per cent of over 1.92 lakh students who appeared for the Uttar Pradesh State Entrance Examination (UPSEE-2013) last month,have qualified the examination as per the results declared by Gautam Buddh Technical University (GBTU) on Tuesday.

17-year-old Akash Deep of Hamirpur beat 1,58,735 other students to emerge as the topper in BTech/BTech Agri Engg,the most sought-after course in the examination. Son of a Mathematics teacher in Hamirpur,Akash passed his Class XII examinations last year from UP Board with 90 per cent marks.

A total of 1,24,015 students — 1,01,649 boys and 22,366 girls — have qualified the course,taking its qualifying percentage to 78.12 per cent.

Announcing the results,GBTU Vice-Chancellor Dr R K Khandal said that he is particularly happy with the results “as the university caters mainly to rural students and the topper is from a rural background”.

“Also,a girl candidate features in the list,completing the top five,” he said,referring to Bhavya Bandaru,who stood first among girls and fifth overall in BTech/BTech Agri Engg.

Kush Paliwal of Etwah topped in BArch,where 77.29 per cent of students qualified; Karan Varshney of Aligarh topped BTech in BioTech,where 79.6 per cent of students qualified.

Similarly,Akhil Gupta of Noida topped in BPharma,where 73.37 per cent of students qualified.

In MBA,only 10,767 students appeared for a total of 40,680 seats. Of these,8,750 have qualified.
