Chief Minister Mayawati has asked her legislators to start preparing for the assembly polls by holding regular meetings in their constituencies to highlight the governments achievements and the Centres step-motherly treatment to the BSP government in the state.
She has also asked them to remain on the alert about possible attempts of the Opposition to trap them for damaging the partys poll prospects in the next assembly elections.
On Wednesday,Mayawati held a meeting with her legislators at her official residence in Lucknow. On November 29,she had met her ministers and asked them to start monitoring development works related to their departments.
She has already made public her plan to undertake surprise visits to different districts after February 2. She sounded election bugle, said a legislators. She said the opposition parties currently lack issues against her and suggested that we dont leave our constituencies even for a day before the next assembly elections.
Most legislators were happy with the announcement that she has given directions to officials to pay full attention to the problems the MLAs place before them. Share the grief and joys of voters in your constituency, she had told the legislators. I have asked officers to solve all problems that you place before them.
Mayawati also made it clear that she would not give tickets to any of their relatives in the assembly elections. Referring to the panchayat elections,she said she will not promote nepotism in her party, another legislator said.
Booklets containing the achievements of BSP government over the last three years were also distributed at the meeting. She has asked them to tell voters about the steps taken by BSP government to improve the law and order situation. A large number of appointments of teachers and police constables in the state and the UP Mukhyamantri Arthik Garib Madad Yojana will have special focus in the speeches the MLAs deliver in their constituencies, a minister said. Mayawati also directed the legislators to highlight the Centres stepmotherly treatment. She cited the examples of her previous demands of special packages for the development of Bundelkhand and Purvanchal, another MLA recalled.
She wants her MLAs to remind voters of her support for the trifurcation of the UP into Purvanchal,Paschimanchal and Bundelkhand. She asked her the MLAs to tell voters about the letters she had written to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh for the creation of the states. The Centre has not not paid any attention to her demands,she told the MLAs.
