The Samajwadi Party government is likely to launch the scheme of free distribution of laptops to students who passed class XII last year from Mainpuri,which is party president Mulayam Singh Yadavs Lok Sabha constituency,on February 28.
Five institutions in Mainpuri have been identified where the laptops will be distributed first. These are Yogiraj Shrikrishan Degree College,Prem Prayag Degree College and S N Degree College all in Bhogaon Assembly constituency of Mainpuri and Baburam Degree College and S K Scientific Degree College in Karhal Assembly constituency.
Both the constituencies are held by the Samajwadi Party. Alok Kumar Shakya,who was made minister of state in the recent expansion,represents Bhogaon,while Sobran Singh Yadav,brother of SPs Rajya Sabha member Darshan Singh Yadav,represents Karhal.
Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav will personally hand over laptops to eligible students of these five colleges,sources said.
However,Vijay Kiran Anand,District Magistrate of Mainpuri,said,We have not received the official confirmation about the date,but the launch will be from Mainpuri. We have uploaded the data of the students on the website.
Minister Shakya said he had heard that the CM would launch the scheme on February 28,but there had been no official communication from the CMs office or the party office.
Sources said that about 5,000 students will be given laptops by the Chief Minister in the presence of Mulayam Singh Yadav. After the launch at Mainpuri,laptops will be distributed in Lucknow at functions which will be held to mark the first anniversary of the Akhilesh Yadav government on March 15,sources said.
Each laptop and the bag will bear the logo of the UP government. When the laptops is switched on,the picture of Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav will appear on the screen,followed by a picture of Mulayam Singh Yadav and then the words Purey Hotey Waadey.
Next,the screen will display the names of the departments associated with the laptop distribution scheme. Next will come the home page,which will carry the tagline Presented by Honourable Chief Minister. The laptops will be available in two colours,black and grey. These will have unicode fonts for Hindi and Urdu,besides English.
The contract for the laptops has been awarded to Hewlett Packard which quoted the lowest price of Rs 19,058 per unit. According to the delivery schedule,HP will have to supply 5 per cent of the ordered quantity within 60 days from the date of signing of the agreement. Another 5 per cent will be supplied in the next 30 days. All 15 lakh laptops have to be supplied in six instalments within seven months.
A webportal http://www.uplaptop-tabletdistribution.in,has been developed to monitor the distribution and inspection of laptops.
