Cop suspended for ‘sodomising’ Dalit
The station officer (SO) of Sirsa Kalar police station in Jalaun district was suspended for allegedly sodomising a Dalit woman. Jalaun SP Prem Kumar Gautam said the complainant had come to visit her relative who is a constable at the Sirsa Kalar police station on Monday. She alleged that SO Sunit Kumar called her in his room and sodomised her issuing threats. ens

Man kills wife over ‘illicit’ affair,held
ALLAHABAD: A woman was shot dead by her husband in the Dhoomanganj area of Allahabad on Tuesday. Mukesh Pasi,who has been arrested,told the police that he killed his wife Renu after he found her with a youth in “an objectionable position”.

Renu’s brother Ravi,on the other hand,said Mukesh had been torturing her to get various things from her parents as dowry. “Renu had told me several times over phone that Mukesh used to torture her. I had tried to settle the matter but today Mukesh shot my sister,” said Ravi.

The police have recovered the country-made pistol used in the murder. “An FIR has been lodged against Mukesh,” said Deputy Inspector General of Police B B Sharma.

Govt recalls ‘derogatory’ book
Taking a strong exception to what it said derogatory comments made on leading politicians in a book titled “Nehru-Gandhi family: secular ya varnshankar”,the Uttar Pradesh government on Tuesday issued an order to recall and seize all its copies.

The state government had taken a strong note of the defamatory comments made on politicians in the book,an official spokesman said.

These comments had the potential to create and vitiate the atmosphere,he said.

The government had,therefore,decided to recall and seize all copies of the book and documents containing its excerpts,the spokesman said.

Four die in Allahabad road accident
ALLAHABAD: Four persons died and seven others sustained injuries in an accident that took place in Allahabad’s Naini area on Tuesday. The accident took place in Mahawari village,when the driver of a minibus lost control over the vehicle while trying to save a man who had suddenly came in front of it. While two passengers died on the spot,the others succumbed in a private hospital. The deceased were identified as Ramu Tiwari (48),Kailash Pasi (36),Rukmani (32) and Budhai Lal (56). Residents of Sewari village in Meja Tehsil,they were on their way to Allahabad. Among the injured,three persons have been referred to S R N Hospital in critical condition.
