The body of a teenaged girl,stuffed in a travelling bag,was recovered from a cane field in Phugana police station area of Muzaffarnagar district on Friday morning. The victim,wearing a nightgown,is yet to be identified. The body bore marks of bruises on the forehead,said police. One Katar Singh of Phugana village found the bag,said Muzaffarnagar SSP Praveen Kumar. The condition of the body indicated that the girl had probably died during the last 24 hours and was dumped on Thursday night,he added.

Woman sets kids,herself on fire

A woman set her three children on fire before immolating herself in Jaunpur districts Sikrara area on Friday. Sushila Yadav (30) was undergoing treatment for mental illness for the last two years,said police. Jaunpur SP (Rural) Dinesh Chandra said Sushila of Janaura village poured kerosene on her daughter Kushi (8) and twin sons Ayush and Yash (1) and set them on fire. She later immolated herself.

CIMAP scientist gets award at BHU

A scientist of Central Institute of Medicinal and Aromatic Plants in Lucknow,Prakash Pandey,bagged the Outstanding Scientist Award at the two-day national conference of Indian Phytopathological Society held at BHU on Friday. Pandey has been working on nematology and management of nematode diseases in plants.

International meet on research by IITR

An international symposium on Alternate Animal Models in Biological Research was organised by Indian Institute of Toxicology Research (IITR) on Friday. It was a part of the international collaborative research programme between IITR and Nottingham University,UK.

HAL officials visit Lucknow division

The chairman of Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL),Ashok Nayak,visited the accessories division of HAL in Lucknow,along with board members,on Friday. They inspected the research and design set-up and the manufacturing facilities of Su-30 aircraft.
