If you have missed biryani while guzzling beer or vice versa here’s the opportunity to partake of both at the same time in the same place. ‘Beer n Biryani’ is the name of the festival that began from Wednesday at the Oudhyana restaurant of Hotel Taj Residency. On offer is a variety of the rice dish that even takes a break here from the traditional recipe.
“We tried our hand at some innovation,so here we have for you a Chinese and a Thai version of biryani,” chef Nagendra takes you by surprise, beaming as you roll your fork in the rice to pick shrimps, prawns and quids instead of the usual chunks of red meat or white. “It is not the usual dum biryani…we have stirred it in the wok. The dash of five-spices gives the Oriental flavour, otherwise it is biryani still.” The Thai and Chinese biryani is accompanied with Yellow Thai curry and cucumber Cantonese.
The Irani and Hyderabadi variants come closest to what your tastebuds are accustomed to,otherwise you are in for a culinary adventure in the form of the Sindhi and Srilankan versions. To save vegetarians the disappointment, the menu offers kathal (jackfruit) and tomato biryanis too, along with a dish replete with gatta, the steamed gramflour dumplings.
Theres also 330 ml beer that comes with the biryani of your choice on an a la carte basis in lunch and dinner timings.
