A fire broke out in the record room of the Allahabad High Court on Friday afternoon. It took three hours to douse the fire. Electrical short circuit was prima facie believed to be the cause behind the incident. Old records of several cases are believed to have been damaged in the incident.
According to Chief Fire Officer (CFO) Satish Chandra, the fire was noticed after 3 pm. We immediately pressed three fire tenders and then one more was sent, Chandra said.
With the record room on the first floor in the rear portion of the high court premises, the fire tenders found it difficult to access the point. We had to break the windows to gain access to the hall, said the CFO. Documents pertaining to old cases were kept in the record room.
