BSP leader and former MP from Etah Devendra Yadav is all set to join the Congress at Rahul Gandhis public rally at Kashganj in Etah district on December 24.
Yadav was elected to the Lok Sabha from Etah in 1998 and 2004 as the Samajwadi Party candidate. In the 2009 Lok Sabha election, when the SP decided to support former BJP chief minister Kalyan Singh,Yadav left the SP,contested as the BSP candidate and lost.
On being contacted,Yadav confirmed his plan to join the Congress.
Sources said senior Congress leader Salim Sherwani was eager to bring Yadav into the Congress fold as it would help him in the 2014 Lok Sabha election in Badaun, which he had lost in 2009.
Yadav has reportedly asked for a Congress ticket for his daughter Basu Yadav, who is head of the Soron Block Development Committee, for contesting the Assembly election from any constituency in Etah district.
