In a huge relief to commuters, the Kalindi Kunj overbridge connecting the South Delhi areas of Sarita Vihar,Kalindi Kunj and Badarpur to Noida will soon be widened from the existing four lanes to eight lanes. The decision was taken by the Noida Authority in its 171st board meeting to ease traffic flow on the bridge, which is the only link between South Delhi and Noida at present.
With the widening of this road, travel between Faridabad,Delhi,Noida and Ghaziabad will become easier, officials believe.
Commuters from South Delhi and Faridabad take this route to reach Noida and Ghaziabad. A commuter from Faridabad would use this route if he needs a shortcut to reach Ghaziabad. Considering the ever-increasing traffic load,we have decided to widen it by four more lanes. The road would also be connected to the Noida-Greater Noida Expressway, providing an easy access to Greater Noida as well, said Rama Raman,CEO of the Noida-Greater Noida Authority.
The Authority has earmarked a budget of Rs 300 crore and also received permission from the UP Irrigation department for constructing the additional lanes. The existing four-laned road is not longer sufficient for the traffic. As a part of the overbridge, which falls in Kalindi Kunj, belongs to the UP Irrigation department,we have secured the necessary approval for it, said the senior official.
The Noida Authority had signed a pact with the DND Flyway operators not to open any other route over the Yamuna river between Delhi and Noida for 10 years from the date of the contract, signed in February,2001. The contract term got over on February 7 this year,a senior Noida official said. The authority has now taken up work to ensure a better connectivity between Noida and Delhi.
