Soon after the incident, senior police officers, including Pilibhit Superintendent of Police Atul Sharma, reached the village. Heavy police force has been deployed there to maintain the law and order situation, officers said. A POLICE constable was shot at and injured in Pilibhit district on Thursday when he went to the residence of an accused in connection with the investigation of a kidnapping case, officers said. Constable Shahrukh Khan, who is posted at the Kotwali police station in Pilibhit, was undergoing treatment and his condition is stable, police said.
The incident happened around 6 pm in Rampura village under the Pooranpur police station area, officers said.
Pilibhit Circle Officer (City) Anshu Jain said, “A case was registered on December 7 at the Kotwali police station for kidnapping of a woman. The complaint was filed by the woman’s husband, who accused one Abhishek Saxena of kidnapping his wife. A probe in the case was launched and it was found that the woman was seen in Pooranpur area. On getting the information, Shahrukh Khan, the investigating officer, went to Saxena’s residence in a bid to trace the woman. He also informed the Pooranpur police station and was accompanied by other police personnel. When they reached the house and knocked, Saxena saw the Khan and fired at him. He was shot in the stomach. Saxena fled the spot and a search is on for him.”
