Constable death triggers ‘protest’ by police

A 45-year-old constable,posted in the Armed Police unit in the district,succumbed to prolonged illness in Lucknow late on Tuesday night. Some police personnel here blocked traffic outside the main gate of the District Police Lines when the constable’s body arrived here this morning. Senior police officials said the “protest” was the mischief of some police personnel who had an axe to grind against the Reserve Inspector (Lines).

The police said Uday Kumar Singh,a resident of Kodrajit in Pratapgarh,succumbed to illness on his way to Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital in Lucknow on Tuesday night.

LACCFED scam: Engineer held

Lucknow: The Special Investigation Bureau (SIB) of Co-operative cell of UP Police arrested an executive engineer of Labour and Construction Co-operative Federation (LACCFED) for allegedly siphoning off Rs 3 crore of the government fund. The arrest was made from Mahanagar area of Lucknow on Tuesday night,confirmed a SIB official.
