With no law to stop them now, girls are fervidly buying pairs of jeans to gear up for first day in college. Confirms Shruti Khaneja,Retail Manager Numero Uno Clothing Ltd,in town for the opening of their new outlet at Sahara Ganj: “Without so much as an official announcement, the store got a stupendous response from day one. Girls have outnumbered boys in picking up our new Espania collection, which is targeted particularly at college going guys and girls.”
To complete the look, the store offers accessories including caps, belts, etc. “We want girls and guys to feel special about the first jeans they wear to college,so we’ve even priced it affordably between Rs 1,100 and Rs 2,400 a pair,” said Shruti. To top it,there is a range of cotton knits,t-shirts with or without full sleeves and shirts priced Rs 499 onwards.
There is enthusiastic buying across the bazar as college girls hop from one shop to another looking for narrow-fit and pencil-fit jeans. “Blue is the shade most popular and at prices ranging between Rs 800 and 1,200,we are selling a good number everyday,” says Shadab Khan of Replay at Saltanat Plaza,Hazratganj, adding that girls are less hooked on tabs and bling on their jeans than men and are making a style statement more with totebags, sunglasses, belts and funky trinkets, all of which is available in the store.
“I don’t know what the fuss was all about. You can look just as desperately seeking attention in a salwar kameez as subtle in a pair of jeans…it’s how you carry yourself and behave that will get you attention or not,” reasons Aditi, selecting a pair of jeans, ready to join college in the coming session.
