The Bahujan Samaj Party has replaced Awadhesh Singh with Jayprakash Mishra for the Kolasala Assembly bypoll.

Initially, the party had asked Rajendra Patel to start campaigning as the party’s nominee for the seat. But after the Samajwadi Party, too, fielded a Patel candidate in Nandlal Patel, the BSP asked Awadhesh Singh to contest. The latest, replacement comes after the Congress nominated J P Singh for the seat.

The decision to field Mishra was announced at a meeting of BSP workers in Bada Gaon. The by-election was necessitated after the resignation of Ajay Rai from the Assembly. Rai had won the seat as BJP nominee, but decided to contest the Lok Sabha election from Varanasi as Samajwadi Party candidate against the BJP stalwart Murli Manohar Joshi.
