UP official removed for insensitive remark

LUCKNOW: The Uttar Pradesh government has removed G Srinivasalu as Special Secretary,Revenue,for his insensitive remark on the death of pilgrims in Uttarakhand. Srinivasalu was briefing reporters Thursday about the fate of pilgrims from UP — Geeta Chaturvedi,63,and Madhu,55,have been reported dead so far — and he was asked about the total number of deaths. H replied with a smile: “It is hard to count those who are alive,how will we count those who have died?” The remark was captured on camera and aired on TV.

UP RLD MLAs to donate month’s pay

LUCKNOW: The eight MLAs and one MLC of Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) will donate a month’s salary for the flood victims of Uttarakhand,said party leader in UP Assembly Dalvir Singh on Thursday. Singh said that he has also written a letter to the Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav requesting to immediately release the funds announced for flood-victims.

MP to give Rs 10 lakh to kin of crash victims

BHOPAL: Madhya Pradesh CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan has announced Rs 10 lakh each for the families of soldiers killed in the helicopter crash in Uttarakhand. Two aircraft carrying 316 pilgrims reached Bhopal Thursday. Some 500 pilgrims from the state are reported to be safe in Badrinath. The associations of government employees has announced that they will donate a day’s salary,which amounts to about Rs 60 crore,for relief work in Uttarakhand.
