Amar Singh snubs Third Front, stands behind Cong

With Left-parties and former Prime Minister Deve Gowda sensing an opportunity for the third front after the decade-old BJP ally BJD parted ways with the NDA,the former front partner Samajwadi Party has downplayed prospects of the alliance.

“The secular politics at the Centre will never be possible without the Congress,” SP general secretary Amar Singh said on Monday. Clearly, the SP is batting for the Congress as the pivot for post-poll secular alliance.

“Even the Left-parties,known for their anti-saffron stand, has objections only to the Congress-led government at the Centre but not to the Congress-participated government,” he added.

Singh took a dig at Deve Gowda as he has recently invited BJD to join the secular forces under the third front.

“While the BJD worked closely with the BJP for over a decade,Deve Gowda’s son Kumaraswami ruled Karnataka with the help of the BJP and now the former PM is championing the secular cause when both of them have fallen out with the BJP,” Amar Singh said.

The SP leader was also against joining any third front alliance after the Lok Sabha polls citing friendship of the Left with Mayawati-led BSP. “If Mayawati is part of the third front being worked out by the CPM leader Prakash Karat, how can we be with them. Ek myan mein do talwarein nahin hi sakti hain,” said Singh.
